Chee Kong CHUI
National University of Singapore
Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering

Chee-Kong CHUI received the Ph.D. degree from the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore. He has been appointed as a Supervisor, Innovation Graduate Program (Research Office) in National University Health System, Singapore (April 2016 – March 2018). He is a Senior Member of IEEE and was the Chairman of IEEE EMBS Singapore Chapter in 2015 and 2016.

Chui is interested in research and development of engineering systems and science for medicine. He collaborates with clinicians to design and develop new medical devices and robot-assisted systems. He is an accomplished researcher on medical simulation. His focus on immersive media involves the provision of haptics and visual cues to assist humans in the training of hand-eye coordination, and furthermore, to augment the human hand-eye coordination in a mixed reality environment and intelligence augmentation. He creates mathematical models and conduct in-vivo and ex-vivo experiments to study tissue biomechanics and tool-tissue interactions. As well, he develops new algorithms in computer vision and graphics. His medical imaging research focuses on measuring and characterizing the material properties of biological tissues.

Chui received several international research awards from his work on the interdisciplinary engineering in medicine. He has written and contributed to over 100 articles in journals and conferences. He is inventor/co-inventor of seven US patents, and has several patents pending.
