Weitian CHEN
The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Assistant Professor, Department of Imaging and Interventional Radiology
Weitian Chen received the BS in geophysics from Peking University in 1998, an MS degree in geophysics from Stanford University in 2004, and the Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Virginia in 2008. He joined GE Healthcare as a scientist in 2008, working on MRI technology development. From 2008 to 2015, he is a main team member of the Stanford-GE research collaboration team. He is a developer/co-developer of a few MRI technologies commercialized in GE MRI system. In 2015, he joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Currently, he is an assistant professor in the Department of Imaging and Interventional Radiology and associated faculty member of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Chinese University Hong Kong.
His current research focuses on innovating and developing new MRI technologies and their clinical applications. One focus of his research is to develop spin-lock MRI for detecting metabolites related to biochemical symptoms of a variety of human diseases (T1hro is a well-known application of spin-lock MRI). These technologies are non-invasive, has no ionizing radiation, and needs neither contrast agent injection nor extra hardware. The sensitivity to the change of macromolecule environment in tissue makes this technology useful for early diagnosis and post-treatment monitoring of diseases.
He is inventor/co-inventor of 9 USA patents and has several patents pending. He has written and contributed to more than 100 articles in journals and conferences.
