Professor Yeung Yam received his B.Sc. degree in Physics from CUHK, and his M.S. and Sc.D. degrees in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT. He is currently the Director of the CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute and a Research Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering. He is the Founding Director of the Intelligent Control Systems Laboratory at the Department, and also the Associate Master of the Lee Woo Sing College of CUHK. Professor Yam served as the Chairman of the Department from 2004 to 2011, and the Interim Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of CUHK in 2018. He was a member of the Technical Staff with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, CA, USA, before joining CUHK in 1992. His research interests include computational method for controller design, intelligent systems, human skill acquisition for dexterous manipulations, and endoscopic-based surgical robotics. Professor Yam is a Fellow of the IMechE and a Fellow of HKIE.
